What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2020 3.0 diesel. 69 of 484 tests failed, 14%.
Better than 6% of 2020 cars. The typical one fails 8%, across 906 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Tyres and wheels | 81% | 56 |
| Brakes | 6% | 4 |
| Lights and electrics | 6% | 4 |
| Plates and identity | 4% | 3 |
| Visibility | 4% | 3 |
| Exhaust and emissions | 3% | 2 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A tyre seriously damaged
- A tyre cords visible or damaged
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- Number plate does not conform to the specified requirements
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- A direction indicator lamp missing, inoperative or in the case of a multiple light source more than 1/2 not functioning

When it starts failing
At 40–60k miles this one fails 14% of its inspections, against the 13% an ordinary car of the same age fails.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–20k miles | 15% | 5% | 100 | |
| 20–40k miles | 14% | 10% | 263 | |
| 40–60k miles | 14% | 13% | 101 |
464 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 20k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.
Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
A12/00792/24
The dashboard in the affected vehicles may not have been manufactured to the manufacturer specifications. In the event of anaccident, the passenger side airbag may not deploy as intended which could increase the risk of injury to the frontpassenger. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/00996/24
The integrated braking system could be compromised, which could lead to an unexpected failure of the hydraulic braking assistance, thereby requiring greater pressure on the brake pedal. This can result in a longer braking distance, as well as failure of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), increasing the risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/01428/22
Due to a faulty installation of the compression springs of the lock in the third seat row, the backrest may not be fully locked. This could lead to an increased risk of injury in the event of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/02134/23
The gas generator in knee airbag modules was not properly inserted into the air cushion, resulting in the cushion failing to unfold sufficiently. As a result, it may not be able to deploy correctly in the event of an accident, leading to a reduction in the restraint effect, increasing the risk of injury to the occupants. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/02466/24
The software-based overload protection function cannot sufficiently prevent the starter being overloaded in the event of repeated long start-up attempts. The starter may overheat or sparks may be produced as a result of an increased current flow. This increases the risk of a fire. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/0477/19
The screw fitting used to attach the front left-hand seat and/or safety belt may not have been tightened with the correct torque. This could affect the attachment of the seat and/or safety belt, increasing the risk of injury in the event of an accident.
Recall of the product from end users
SR/00053/25
The hollow shaft of the servomotor was not welded correctly. The weld may not be able to withstand high braking pressure build-up and may break. In this case, the reduced braking performance requires greater force and the braking distance may increase. In addition, the ABS and DSC brake control systems are not assisted. This increases the risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
SR/03823/25
The engine starter’s electrical contacts may overheat and cause the vehicle to start improperly. Continued starting attempts can intensify the overheating and ignite surrounding components, potentially leading to a vehicle fire while driving or shortly after parking. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
