Daimler V8
Registered from 1994 to 2002.

About this model
V8 engines were produced by the Daimler Company in displacements of 2.5 L (153 cu in) (1959-1968) and 4.5 L (275 cu in) (1959-1968). Designed for Daimler by Edward Turner, they were initially used in the SP250 sports car and the Majestic Major saloon respectively; ultimately, the 2.5 L was mostly used in the Daimler 2.5 V8 saloon made with Jaguar Mark 2 unit bodies from 1962 to 1969. Approximately 20,000 of the 2.5 L were used in the SP250 and the 250 saloon, and approximately 2,000 4.5 L in the Majestic Major saloon and its Daimler DR450 limousine variant which remained in production until 1968.

What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 1998 4.0 petrol. 18 of 84 tests failed, 21%.
Better than 74% of 1998 cars. The typical one fails 25%, across 269 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Suspension | 50% | 9 |
| Body and structure | 28% | 5 |
| Brakes | 28% | 5 |
| Exhaust and emissions | 22% | 4 |
| Lights and electrics | 22% | 4 |
| Seat belts and airbags | 17% | 3 |
The defects inspectors cite
- Emissions levels exceed default limits
- The strength or continuity of the load bearing structure within 30cm of any sub-frame, spring or suspension component mounting (a 'prescribed area') is significantly reduced or inadequately repaired
- A spring or spring component fractured or seriously weakened
- Lambda coefficient outside the default limits or the range specified by the manufacturer
- Warning device shows system malfunction
- A headlamp or light source missing, inoperative or more than ½ not functioning in the case of LED
