What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2009 2.2 diesel. 566 of 2,627 tests failed, 22%.
Better than 67% of 2009 cars. The typical one fails 25%, across 961 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Lights and electrics | 47% | 265 |
| Brakes | 41% | 233 |
| Suspension | 38% | 215 |
| Tyres and wheels | 29% | 164 |
| Visibility | 10% | 57 |
| Body and structure | 9% | 50 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A suspension pin, bush or joint excessively worn
- The aim of a headlamp is not within limits laid down in the requirements
- A lamp missing, inoperative or in the case of a multiple light source more than 1/2 not functioning
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- A headlamp or light source missing, inoperative or more than ½ not functioning in the case of LED

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
A12/0022/16
Owing to excess internal pressure, inflation of the driver airbag can cause the inflator to split and release metal fragments which can cause injury to the vehicle passengers.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/00544/20
The airbag inflators may be defective and may create excessive internal pressure in the event of activation. As a result, the metal inflator casing may rupture, causing metal fragments to be propelled through the airbag and into the passenger compartment, injuring the vehicle occupants.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/0063/19
A defect in the gas generator of the front-seat passenger airbag leads to uncontrolled inflation and the release of metal fragments when the airbag is activated. This can cause the occupants of the vehicle to be injured.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/00656/22
The drive shafts installed in the vehicles concerned were coated with a lubricant which accelerates the wearing of the protective layer covering them, making them more susceptible to damage caused by road debris. Furthermore, grit containing de-icing agents used to maintain the roads could accumulate in damaged parts of the drive shafts, increasing corrosion and the risk of breaking at high torque. Both situations increase the risk of accident/injury for passengers and other road users. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of Motor Vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/03280/24
Due to a faulty circuit board in the passenger seat weight sensor, the passenger seat’s occupant detection system may identify a Steering Wheel Sensor (SWS) error and the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) warning light could switch on. This can cause a faulty triggering of the airbags, creating a risk of injuries for a child occupying the passenger seat. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/0355/15
The passenger airbag inflator may produce excessive internal pressure if deployed. The increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture propelling metal fragments causing injury to the occupant.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/0695/19
The replacement service parts from the previous recall may be defective. In the event of the passenger frontal airbag being deployed, the excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator body to rupture and metal fragments may pass through the cushion material causing injury to the occupants.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/1551/17
The battery sensor’s plastic housing may not be resistant to the penetration of moisture. Any penetrating moisture may cause a short circuit, leading to a fire.
