About this model
The Infiniti Q50 is a compact executive car manufactured by both Nissan and Dongfeng Nissan for its luxury brand, Infiniti. Replacing the G sedan, it debuted at the 2013 North American International Auto Show and went on sale in North America in the third quarter of 2013 and in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2013. It is the export model of the Japanese domestic market's V37 Nissan Skyline.

What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2015 2.1 diesel. 142 of 774 tests failed, 18%.
Better than 27% of 2015 cars. The typical one fails 15%, across 894 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Brakes | 49% | 69 |
| Tyres and wheels | 41% | 58 |
| Suspension | 23% | 32 |
| Lights and electrics | 20% | 29 |
| Body and structure | 8% | 11 |
| Visibility | 5% | 7 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- A suspension pin, bush or joint excessively worn
- A tyre cords visible or damaged
- A tyre seriously damaged
- Parking brake efficiency below minimum requirement
Where it stands out against its peers
- Brakes: failed more often than 95% of 2015 cars — 49% of its 142 failed tests, where an ordinary 2015 car has 24%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

When it starts failing
At 100–120k miles this one fails 26% of its inspections, against the 20% an ordinary car of the same age fails.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20–40k miles | 9% | 10% | 32 | |

725 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 60k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
A12/0124/15
The transmission housing may develop cracks and be destroyed. The drive motor may then suddenly fail.

A12/03334/24
The propeller shafts have insufficient strength due to insufficient press-fitting length of the universal joints into the tubes. As a result, cracks can develop in these areas during use, leading the propeller shaft to break. This can cause unexpected loss of control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/0877/15
Because of a faulty gasket on the timing chain tensioner, motor oil may leak out and drip onto the road leading to a skid risk for other road users.
