About this model
The Jaguar F-Type (X152) is a series of two-door, two-seater sports cars manufactured by British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover under their Jaguar Cars marque from December 2012 to June 2024 at Jaguar's Castle Bromwich assembly plant in the UK. The car's JLR D6a platform is based on a shortened version of the XK's platform. It is the so-called "spiritual successor" to the E-Type.

What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2016 3.0 petrol. 99 of 1,718 tests failed, 6%.
Better than 94% of 2016 cars. The typical one fails 13%, across 899 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Tyres and wheels | 55% | 54 |
| Visibility | 21% | 21 |
| Lights and electrics | 12% | 12 |
| Brakes | 11% | 11 |
| Plates and identity | 6% | 6 |
| Suspension | 5% | 5 |
The defects inspectors cite
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- A tyre seriously damaged
- Wiper blade missing or obviously not clearing the windscreen
- A tyre cords visible or damaged
- Windscreen washers not working or not providing sufficient fluid to clear the windscreen
- Number plate does not conform to the specified requirements
Where it stands out against its peers
- Plates and identity: failed more often than 93% of 2016 cars — 6% of its 99 failed tests, where an ordinary 2016 car has 1%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

When it starts failing
At 60–80k miles this one fails 9% of its inspections, against the 16% an ordinary car of the same age fails.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–20k miles | 5% | 6% | 458 | |
| 20–40k miles | 5% | 10% | 793 | |
| 40–60k miles | 8% | 13% | 366 | |
| 60–80k miles | 9% | 16% | 82 |
1,699 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 20k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.

Certain vehicles fitted with 2.0L Diesel Engines may emit excessive levels of CO2 and may not conform with the certified condition. CO2 and other greenhouse gases contribute to global warming pollution. A reduction in CO2 emissions contributes to the EU greenhouse gas reduction targets helping protect the environment. The product does not comply with the Regulation setting emission performance standards for new passenger cars and the Regulation on type approval of motor vehicles with respect to emissions from light passenger and commercial vehicles.

The pretensioner tubes might have been damaged during assembly due to a manufacturing defect of certain front seat belt pretensioners This can result in reduced or complete loss of pretension in the event of a crash and could increase the risk of injury to the occupant. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

The crankshaft pulley retaining bolt may fracture. As a consequence, the crankshaft nose could break leading to engine power loss and the potential for engine failure. Furthermore, the loose pulley could damage under bonnet components or puncture the bonnet and become a hazard to pedestrians or other road users.

The Engine Management System (EMS) does not provide the speed restriction when the vehicle road speed exceeds 135mph (217kph) with the Deployable Rear Spoiler in the down position. Vehicle stability will be compromised and the degree of directional control minimised. This significantly increases the risk of an accident at very high road speeds.

The rear lower control arm to rear knuckle joint fixing may fail. If joint separation occurs, vehicle stability and control will be compromised.
