What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2014 1.7 diesel. 504 of 2,329 tests failed, 22%.
Better than 24% of 2014 cars. The typical one fails 17%, across 870 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Brakes | 42% | 214 |
| Suspension | 36% | 180 |
| Tyres and wheels | 32% | 163 |
| Lights and electrics | 29% | 145 |
| Visibility | 12% | 62 |
| Body and structure | 6% | 29 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- A shock absorber damaged to the extent that it does not function or showing signs of severe leakage
- A tyre cords visible or damaged
- A tyre seriously damaged
- Stop lamp missing, inoperative or in the case of a multiple light source more than 1/2 not functioning
- A suspension pin, bush or joint excessively worn
Where it stands out against its peers
- Brakes: failed more often than 90% of 2014 cars — 42% of its 504 failed tests, where an ordinary 2014 car has 25%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

When it starts failing
At 140–160k miles this one fails 26% of its inspections, against the 23% an ordinary car of the same age fails.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |

| 140–160k miles | 26% | 23% | 50 |
2,282 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 60k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
SR/00590/25
Due to an internal leak of brake fluid, a short circuit can occur in the electrical circuit for the ABS/ESC (Anti-lock Braking System / Electronic Stability Control) system. This can lead to an increase in current and overheating in the fuse box, increasing the risk of the engine catching fire. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
