What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2012 1.6 diesel. 3,380 of 12,520 tests failed, 27%.
Better than 13% of 2012 cars. The typical one fails 21%, across 925 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Suspension | 43% | 1,437 |
| Lights and electrics | 37% | 1,240 |
| Brakes | 36% | 1,210 |
| Tyres and wheels | 24% | 828 |
| Steering | 24% | 825 |
| Visibility | 13% | 452 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A suspension pin, bush or joint excessively worn
- A steering ball joint with excessive wear or free play
- A suspension joint dust cover missing or no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc
- A lamp missing, inoperative or in the case of a multiple light source more than 1/2 not functioning
- Parking brake efficiency below minimum requirement
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
Where it stands out against its peers
- Steering: failed more often than 92% of 2012 cars — 24% of its 3,380 failed tests, where an ordinary 2012 car has 5%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

12,516 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 80k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
A12/02275/23
A faulty filter inside the tandem pump can cause insufficient oil supply and failure to generate vacuum pressure. This can affect the braking distance, increasing a risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
SR/00217/25
The printed circuit board (PCB) in the hydraulic clutch actuator (HCA) can become contaminated with fluid. A PCB that is contaminated with fluid can cause an electrical short-circuit, resulting in a fire in the engine compartment while driving. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
