What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2020 electric. 341 of 3,005 tests failed, 11%.
Better than 18% of 2020 cars. The typical one fails 8%, across 906 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Tyres and wheels | 89% | 302 |
| Visibility | 6% | 19 |
| Suspension | 4% | 15 |
| Brakes | 4% | 12 |
| Lights and electrics | 3% | 11 |
| Plates and identity | 3% | 10 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A tyre seriously damaged
- A tyre cords visible or damaged
- A suspension pin, bush or joint excessively worn
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- Wiper blade missing or obviously not clearing the windscreen
- Number plate does not conform to the specified requirements
Where it stands out against its peers
- Tyres and wheels: failed more often than 95% of 2020 cars — 89% of its 341 failed tests, where an ordinary 2020 car has 55%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

When it starts failing
At 60–80k miles this one fails 14% of its inspections, about what an ordinary car of the same age does.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–20k miles | 6% | 5% | 810 | |
| 20–40k miles | 13% | 10% | 1,691 | |
| 40–60k miles | 13% | 13% | 432 | |
| 60–80k miles | 14% | 14% | 69 |
3,002 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 20k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.

The high-voltage battery may not meet specifications. If a cell module is not screwed tight enough, the connection could be loosened by vibrations while in motion. The electrical resistance of the connection could increase and the temperature could rise in this area, creating a risk of fire. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

The electrical connector of the side-impact sensors might not be correctly latched and could become detached. This would lead to delayed activation of the restraint systems in the event of a side impact, reducing their restraining effect and increasing the risk of injury to the vehicle occupants.

Mercedes-Benz AG has found that, in certain EQC (BR 293) vehicles, the wiring harness for the electric steering may have been damaged during the assembly process. This could lead to an ingress of water into the wiring harness and thus, over time, into the steering control unit. As a result, the power steering could fail spontaneously, even during driving, increasing the risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the requirements laid down in the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
