About this model
The Nissan Qashqai is a compact SUV (C-segment) designed and produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan since 2006. The first generation of the vehicle was sold as the Nissan Dualis in Japan and Australia, and Qashqai in the rest of the world. The second generation, launched in late-2013 for the 2014 model year, was not sold in Japan and was badged as the Qashqai in all countries it was sold, except in the United States, where it was rebadged as the Nissan Rogue Sport. Since the third and latest generation model launched in 2021, the Qashqai is available with hybrid powertrains.

What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2019 1.3 petrol. 2,576 of 34,744 tests failed, 7%.
Better than 67% of 2019 cars. The typical one fails 9%, across 908 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Tyres and wheels | 42% | 1,093 |
| Brakes | 29% | 753 |
| Visibility | 24% | 614 |
| Lights and electrics | 8% | 211 |
| Suspension | 7% | 183 |
| Body and structure | 3% | 89 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- A tyre seriously damaged
- Wiper blade missing or obviously not clearing the windscreen
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- A tyre cords visible or damaged
- Windscreen washers not working or not providing sufficient fluid to clear the windscreen

When it starts failing
At 80–100k miles this one fails 14% of its inspections, about what an ordinary car of the same age does.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–20k miles | 3% | 5% | 9,030 | |
| 20–40k miles | 8% | 9% | 20,164 | |
| 40–60k miles | 12% | 12% | 4,822 | |
| 60–80k miles | 15% | 14% | 640 | |
| 80–100k miles | 14% | 14% | 71 |
34,727 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 20k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
A12/0879/16
The sensor of the rear oxygen sensor might fail and does not set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in case of inappropriate content of the exhaust gases. In such cases, the user is not warned through the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) on the dashboard.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/0887/18
The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) label contains incorrect GCW (Gross Combination Weight) information. This could lead to the user exceeding the trailer capacity.

A12/1887/14
The bolted joints fixing the tow-bar kit to the chassis of the vehicle may loosen under specific towing conditions. This is due to non-removal of vehicle under-body wax and/or insufficient torque applied to the bolted joints. In an extreme situation, where the vehicle continues to be driven with loose bolted joints under specific towing conditions, the tow-bar kit may detach from the vehicle.

During engine operation, the fuel line may move within its retaining clip in the engine compartment. This movement could damage the fuel line and cause a fuel leak, creating a risk of fire. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

Due to incorrect software calibration, the lithium-ion battery controller may not reliably detect battery cell anomalies. It may incorrectly identify faults because of electrical interference or fluctuations in circuit resistance. As a result, the system may switch to fail-safe mode while the vehicle is being driven, limiting engine power and preventing charging. Under certain conditions, this could turn off the main relay and cause a loss of propulsion, meaning the vehicle may come to a stop while in motion, increasing the risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
