About this model
The Peugeot 5008 is a series of automobiles produced by the French manufacturer Peugeot since 2009. Originally a compact MPV in classification, since 2017, it was reclassified as a mid-size SUV. Five- and seven-seat versions have been available and its engine range is the same as that used in the Peugeot 3008.

What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2019 1.5 diesel. 449 of 3,643 tests failed, 12%.
Better than 17% of 2019 cars. The typical one fails 9%, across 908 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Tyres and wheels | 45% | 202 |
| Brakes | 32% | 145 |
| Lights and electrics | 13% | 58 |
| Body and structure | 10% | 43 |
| Visibility | 8% | 34 |
| Exhaust and emissions | 6% | 29 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- A tyre seriously damaged
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- A tyre cords visible or damaged
- A transmission shaft constant velocity joint boot missing or no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc
- Engine MIL illuminated indicating a malfunction
Where it stands out against its peers
- Body and structure: failed more often than 91% of 2019 cars — 10% of its 449 failed tests, where an ordinary 2019 car has 2%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

When it starts failing
At 80–100k miles this one fails 14% of its inspections, about what an ordinary car of the same age does.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–20k miles | 8% | 5% | 424 | |
| 20–40k miles | 11% | 9% | 1,718 | |

| 80–100k miles | 14% | 14% | 97 |
3,613 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 20k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
A11/00077/23
The lubrication of the vacuum pump may be insufficient and this can cause it to break, which in turn can lead to reduced braking assistance, creating a risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/01184/21
The teeth of the timing belt may wear off prematurely due to excessive dynamic tension in dusty conditions. As a result, the engine may stall at high engine speeds and not being able to restart, increasing the risk of an accident. The product does not meet the requirements laid down in the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/01870/23
A software error in the engine control unit prevents the malfunction indicator light (MIL) from switching on if the urea injector stops working. This can lead to higher emissions and poses a risk to the environment. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/0272/18
There could be contact between a fuel hose and the aerodynamic screen located under the fuel tank. Over time, this could cause a fuel leak underneath the vehicle.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/02824/24
In certain vehicles fitted with the DV5R E6.3 engine, the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are above the regulatory limits. Excessive NOx emissions pose a risk to the environment. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/03137/24
The subframe support can corrode, leading to cracks. This can result in the loss of structural integrity and the consequent loss of control of the vehicle. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/0399/18
Engine overheating may lead to an oil leak. Engine failure while driving could lead to loss of control of the vehicle resulting in a crash.
Recall of the product from end users
SR/00050/25
The front left or right ball joint mount on the front lower suspension arm may have defective fixing screws, which could break. Two missing screws will cause the ball joint mount to pivot and the affected wheel to change direction and hit the mudguard, which may affect the steering capacity of the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
