About this model
The KGM Korando, formerly SsangYong Korando is a mini SUV or compact crossover SUV built by the South Korean automobile manufacturer SsangYong from 1983 to 2006 and from 2010 onwards. The name Korando is a contraction of "Korea Can Do". The Korando brand is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as Korea's longest surviving name plate.

What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2015 2.0 diesel. 371 of 1,577 tests failed, 24%.
Better than 6% of 2015 cars. The typical one fails 15%, across 894 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Brakes | 43% | 161 |
| Lights and electrics | 40% | 149 |
| Suspension | 34% | 126 |
| Tyres and wheels | 25% | 91 |
| Visibility | 18% | 65 |
| Body and structure | 12% | 45 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A spring or spring component fractured or seriously weakened
- A rear registration plate lamp or light source missing or inoperative in the case of a single lamp or all lamps
- Parking brake efficiency below minimum requirement
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- A suspension pin, bush or joint excessively worn
- Windscreen washers not working or not providing sufficient fluid to clear the windscreen
Where it stands out against its peers
- Brakes: failed more often than 92% of 2015 cars — 43% of its 371 failed tests, where an ordinary 2015 car has 24%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

When it starts failing
At 100–120k miles this one fails 26% of its inspections, against the 20% an ordinary car of the same age fails.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20–40k miles | 14% | 10% | 180 | |
| 40–60k miles | 22% | 14% | 499 | |
| 60–80k miles | 26% | 17% | 515 | |
| 80–100k miles | 26% | 19% | 252 | |
| 100–120k miles | 26% | 20% | 72 |
1,518 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 60k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.
