About this model
The SsangYong Rodius is an automobile released in late 2004 by the South Korean automaker SsangYong Motor Company. Rodius is an inaccurate portmanteau of the words road and Zeus, which is intended to mean "Lord of the Road." Considered a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), it is available in 7, 9 and 11 seat configurations, a 5-seater version is also available in Hong Kong. The seats can be folded to act as tables or folded further to add extra cargo area. They can be turned around, encouraging conversation and can be slid forward and backward.

What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2017 2.2 diesel. 175 of 795 tests failed, 22%.
Better than 3% of 2017 cars. The typical one fails 12%, across 926 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Brakes | 36% | 63 |
| Lights and electrics | 35% | 62 |
| Steering | 26% | 45 |
| Suspension | 23% | 40 |
| Tyres and wheels | 21% | 36 |
| Seat belts and airbags | 15% | 27 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A steering ball joint with excessive wear or free play
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- A spring or spring component fractured or seriously weakened
- An SRS malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) indicates a system malfunction
- A lamp missing, inoperative or in the case of a multiple light source more than 1/2 not functioning
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
Where it stands out against its peers
- Lights and electrics: failed more often than 90% of 2017 cars — 35% of its 175 failed tests, where an ordinary 2017 car has 17%.
- Steering: failed more often than 99% of 2017 cars — 26% of its 175 failed tests, where an ordinary 2017 car has 1%.
- Seat belts and airbags: failed more often than 97% of 2017 cars — 15% of its 175 failed tests, where an ordinary 2017 car has 1%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

When it starts failing
At 80–100k miles this one fails 26% of its inspections, against the 16% an ordinary car of the same age fails.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–20k miles | 13% | 6% | 32 | |

| 80–100k miles | 26% | 16% | 43 |
762 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 40k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.
