About this model
The Opel Grandland is a compact crossover SUV produced by the German manufacturer Opel. It was originally known as the Opel and Vauxhall Grandland X, until the facelift of the first generation model when it dropped the X suffix in the nameplate. It was introduced as a replacement for the Opel Antara, and also replaced the Opel Zafira in 2019.

What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2019 1.2 petrol. 1,314 of 16,147 tests failed, 8%.
Better than 59% of 2019 cars. The typical one fails 9%, across 908 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Tyres and wheels | 50% | 658 |
| Brakes | 23% | 300 |
| Body and structure | 12% | 162 |
| Lights and electrics | 11% | 139 |
| Visibility | 9% | 112 |
| Seat belts and airbags | 6% | 76 |
The defects inspectors cite
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- A tyre seriously damaged
- Fuel system leaking, or missing or ineffective filler cap
- A tyre cords visible or damaged
- Windscreen washers not working or not providing sufficient fluid to clear the windscreen
Where it stands out against its peers
- Body and structure: failed more often than 94% of 2019 cars — 12% of its 1,314 failed tests, where an ordinary 2019 car has 2%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

When it starts failing
At 80–100k miles this one fails 12% of its inspections, against the 14% an ordinary car of the same age fails.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–20k miles | 4% | 5% | 4,228 | |
| 20–40k miles | 9% | 9% | 9,083 | |
| 40–60k miles | 12% | 12% | 2,449 | |

| 80–100k miles | 12% | 14% | 52 |
16,139 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 20k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
SR/00058/25
The front left or right ball joint mount on the front lower suspension arm may have defective fixing screws, which could break. Two missing screws will cause the ball joint mount to pivot and the affected wheel to change direction and hit the mudguard, which may affect the steering capacity of the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

SR/00446/25
Due to a weakness in the crimping interface of the quick coupling connector fitted to the high-pressure fuel pump, a leak may occur in the fuel pipe within the engine compartment. This can result in the vehicle catching fire. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

SR/00804/25
Due to the routing of the cable bundle of the driver and front passenger seat's cable bundle, the bundle and the seat rail's end stop can rub. This can lead to damages to the bundle by metal parts when the seat back is the rearmost position. This can provoke the seat airbag's malfunction, increasing the risk of injuries in the event of an accident. Moreover, this can cause a short-circuit, creating a risk for the vehicle to catch fire. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

SR/01779/25
The low-pressure fuel line may touch the screw of the ignition coil. This contact may damage the fuel line and eventually lead to a fuel leak, which may cause the vehicle to catch fire. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
SR/02932/25
The vehicle may have a fuel leak in the high-pressure hose, between the high-pressure pump and the rail, because of loose nuts. This may cause a fire in the vehicle. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles
Recall of the product from end users
SR/03574/25
A defective bolted connection in the 48V heating connector may become detached, which could cause loss of heating or overheating and cause the vehicle to catch fire. The product does not comply with the requirements laid down in the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
