About this model
The Volkswagen Caddy is a panel van and leisure activity vehicle (M-segment) produced by the German automaker Volkswagen Group since 1979. It is sold in Europe and in other markets around the world. The Volkswagen Caddy was first introduced in North America in 1979 and in Europe in 1982. The first and second generations also had pick-up variants.

What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2013 1.6 diesel. 3,177 of 14,807 tests failed, 21%.
Better than 37% of 2013 cars. The typical one fails 19%, across 828 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Suspension | 57% | 1,800 |
| Tyres and wheels | 29% | 919 |
| Brakes | 26% | 841 |
| Visibility | 21% | 652 |
| Lights and electrics | 19% | 611 |
| Body and structure | 8% | 259 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A suspension pin, bush or joint excessively worn
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- Windscreen washers not working or not providing sufficient fluid to clear the windscreen
- A spring or spring component fractured or seriously weakened
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- A suspension joint dust cover missing or no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc
Where it stands out against its peers
- Suspension: failed more often than 92% of 2013 cars — 57% of its 3,177 failed tests, where an ordinary 2013 car has 34%.
- Visibility: failed more often than 92% of 2013 cars — 21% of its 3,177 failed tests, where an ordinary 2013 car has 10%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

14,787 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 100k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
A12/0027/16
There may be a defect in the earth connection of the electrical system control unit in the sill area. In the worst-case scenario, the engine could start by itself when the remote-control unit is operated, which would make the vehicle move forward if the engine is in gear.

Due to bulges or tears on the inner side of the tyre, a gradual or sudden loss of pressure may occur. This can affect driving stability, increasing the risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

Leaks can occur where the brake hose is attached because the rear left brake line is improperly screwed. A leak may lead to a slow loss of brake fluid, affecting the braking performance, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.

The earth connection of the ABS/ESP system may be interrupted as a result of thermomechanical overload. This would lead to the failure of the ABS/ESP system and the risk of an accident.
