What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2020 1.5 petrol. 828 of 10,939 tests failed, 8%.
Better than 60% of 2020 cars. The typical one fails 8%, across 906 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Brakes | 45% | 372 |
| Tyres and wheels | 41% | 342 |
| Visibility | 10% | 81 |
| Lights and electrics | 6% | 51 |
| Suspension | 4% | 31 |
| Seat belts and airbags | 4% | 29 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- A tyre seriously damaged
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- Wiper blade missing or obviously not clearing the windscreen
- A tyre cords visible or damaged
- A transmission shaft constant velocity joint boot missing or no longer prevents the ingress of dirt etc
Where it stands out against its peers
- Brakes: failed more often than 97% of 2020 cars — 45% of its 828 failed tests, where an ordinary 2020 car has 16%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

When it starts failing
At 60–80k miles this one fails 13% of its inspections, against the 14% an ordinary car of the same age fails.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–20k miles | 4% | 5% | 4,497 | |
| 20–40k miles | 10% | 10% | 5,558 | |
| 40–60k miles | 14% | 13% | 769 | |
| 60–80k miles | 13% | 14% | 90 |
10,914 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 20k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
A12/01385/21
The welding connection between the motor’s rotor shaft and the magnet package in the hydraulic unit of the brake system may be partially or fully missing. As a result, the brake boost, the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and the electronic stability control (ESC) could be disabled, resulting in less deceleration than normal, leading to increased risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the requirements laid down in the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of Motor Vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
Recall of the product from end users
A12/0228/19
A software problem has been detected in the communication module of the emergency call system. As a consequence, incorrect location information might be sent to the emergency services in the event of an accident.
