What fails its inspection
Great Britain's MOT record for the 2017 2.0 diesel. 1,103 of 9,204 tests failed, 12%.
Better than 48% of 2017 cars. The typical one fails 12%, across 926 models with enough tests behind them to say.
| Where | Share of failures | Failed tests |
|---|---|---|
| Tyres and wheels | 38% | 422 |
| Brakes | 31% | 341 |
| Lights and electrics | 17% | 188 |
| Suspension | 13% | 142 |
| Visibility | 9% | 98 |
| Steering | 7% | 73 |
The defects inspectors cite
- A brake lining or pad worn below 1.5mm
- A tyre seriously damaged
- Tyre tread depth not in accordance with the requirements
- A spring or spring component fractured or seriously weakened
- A tyre cords visible or damaged
- A direction indicator lamp missing, inoperative or in the case of a multiple light source more than 1/2 not functioning
Where it stands out against its peers
- Steering: failed more often than 93% of 2017 cars — 7% of its 1,103 failed tests, where an ordinary 2017 car has 1%.
Same model year only, at least 30 peer cars, zeros included. Every car has a worst part; this shows which, and how far from ordinary it is. A high share means more to check, not a verdict.
NHTSA's investigations are American; no European regulator publishes an equivalent record, so this section has nothing to draw on for a European car. There is no European equivalent of the service-bulletin register either.

When it starts failing
At 140–160k miles this one fails 20% of its inspections, against the 17% an ordinary car of the same age fails.
| Odometer | Failure rate | Rate | Its age | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–20k miles | 9% | 6% | 82 | |
| 20–40k miles | 8% | 10% | 1,574 | |

| 140–160k miles | 20% | 17% | 46 |
9,180 British inspections, grouped by the odometer reading recorded at the test.
Half of these have more than 40k miles on them. That is how far people drive this car, not how long it lasts.

Recalls
Filed by the manufacturer with a regulator. A recall is repaired free of charge, whoever owns the car now.
0480/12
The wire harness under the driver and/or passenger seat may not have been properly affixed to the seat frame during vehicle assembly. As such, the harness may get caught by the audio and/or back-up camera amplifier (mounted under either of the front seats) when the seating position is adjusted. If this occurs, the harness connector may detach from the socket and, as a result, the airbags may not function as intended, causing the instrument panel Safety Restrain System (SRS) warning lamp to illuminate.

Excessive carbon deposits could build up in the intake system of the engine.Additionally, the intake valve could leak.Consequently, the temperature of the intake air could rise, causing the engine intake manifold to melt and deform. This could lead to the engine to stop increasing the risk of accidents or even the engine bay to catch fire.

Due to a manufacturing defect, there may be a loose item within the steering gear. This can cause the steering to lock while driving, increasing the risk of an accident. The product does not comply with the Regulation on the approval and market surveillance of motor vehicles and their trailers, and of systems, components and separate technical units intended for such vehicles.
